Clean Slate

Do you ever wish you could just start life over with a clean slate? I sometimes do. But I always imagine that I get to start over knowing everything I know now. Man, I would kick BUTT in the grade school social games!

In the eloquent lyrics of those fabulous Indigo Girls, “Nobody gets a lifetime rehearsal.” And really, if I started my life over knowing what I have learned so far in this life, I would just be dissatisfied with a whole different, all be it more advanced, set of personal criticisms and concerns. I find it somewhat comforting to suspect that I would still find things to criticise about myself. And, ya know what? I think I can be a little kinder to myself in this unrehearsed life with all my false starts, incompletes, and social faux pas knowing that.

We start where we start. We get to learn what we get to learn. I’d like to think the job we do at living our lives is measured in how we choose to serve others with the the wisdom each of our individual challenges have offered us. This is what is meant by “purpose”.
